"Luckily my internships demanded much more from me than just making photocopies or preparing conference rooms!"

Caroline Chartier

HR Communications & Event Services Officer / Assistant Project Manager

I started my career at RTL Group as an intern in the HR Communications & Event Services department in March 2004. Communication is vital to organisational efficiency, employee satisfaction and motivation. This department designs, creates, writes and develops a wide range of employee communications and events.
Luckily my traineeship demanded much more from me than just making photocopies or preparing conference rooms! I was integrated into the department’s daily activity and participated in a variety of team projects such as the re-launch of our local intranet, the organisation of employee events or the coordination of the Bertelsmann Employee Survey, which gave me an insight into everything a leading European media company can do to cultivate a positive and engaging corporate culture and facilitate synergies within its headquarters.

When my internship ended, RTL Group gave me the opportunity to start as HR Communications & Event Services Officer. As a radio enthusiast, I was proposed a few months later to also join the Digital Radio Strategy team as Assistant Project Manager and work today for both teams.

My main activities in the Communications & Event Services team include the daily management of our intranet and the elaboration of its editorial content as well as the coordination of all communication around the organisation of events. At the Digital Radio Strategy team, I’m in charge of the analysis of competitive markets, the monitoring of relevant broadcast media technologies and the organisation of Radio Synergy Committees with all Heads of the RTL Group radio network.

Wearing several hats is for me an enriching opportunity to appreciate both supportive and operational functions within a big corporation. It’s a very challenging situation that is enabling me to apprehend the media business more globally.
